Classes and Levels
No matter the age of your child, we have classes to help them progress in the water. From six month old water babies, to three to five year old shrimps, or swim team prep classes. We have something for every experience level. Please take a look at what we offer below.
Ages 6 - 36 Months (Water Babies)
Baby Shrimp;or Keiki Opae(kay-key Oh-pay), in Hawaiian,is what we affectionately call our water babies.
Keiki Opae 1 - (6-18 mo) GOALS; Comfort in water, wall grabs, climbing in and out of pool, breath control, back float, kicking, skill development, proper holds. Accompanying parent becomes the teacher advised by an instructor
Keiki Opae 2 - (18 – 36 mo) GOALS; Proper holds and skill development, Safety jumps, breath control, rolling over, wall grab, climbing in and out of pool, more independent swimming is encouraged through game and song.
Keiki Opae 3 - (20 – 36 mo)GOALS; Independent swims. Roll over breathing, creating a more independent swimmer from parent. Fall in roll over to climb out of pool.
Ages 3 - 5 years (Shrimp Program)
Beginner Shrimp - (3-5 yrs) GOALS OF WHITE SHRIMP; Beginning familiarity with water, puffer cheeks, bubbles, water on face and ears, back float and face floats with assistance, safety jumps and holding on to wall, climbing in and out of pool.
Adjusted Shrimp - (3-5 yrs) GOALS OF YELLOW SHRIMP; Gliding, kicking in correct positions, bubbles, safety jumps, swimming six feet with scoopers and kickers, rolling over from front to back, rolling from back to front, taking a breath of air while continuing to kick aggressively.
Intermediate Shrimp - GOALS OF ORANGE SHRIMP; Gliding and kicking with confidence, rolling to back for a breath, recovering in the water and continuing with out stopping 16 feet, back float for 10 seconds, attempts treading and swimming to wall after jumping into pool.
Advanced Shrimp - GOALS OF BLUE SHRIMP; Swimming 32 feet rolling to back for a breath, or taking a side breath, treading water for a minute and beginning elementary back stroke, back stroke, and side stroke.
Advanced Shrimp2 - (3-5 yrs) GOALS OF GREEN SHRIMP; Correct rhythm on side breathing, correct rotation on back stroke, the complete breaststroke and butterfly.
Ages 6 years and Older ( Levels 1 to 6)
Level 1 - (6 yrs and older) GOALS; Beginning familiarity with water, puffer cheeks, bubbles, water on face and ears, back float and face floats with assistance, safety jumps and holding on to wall, climbing in and out of pool.
Level 2 - (6 yrs and older) GOALS; Introduce independent breath by rolling to their back or breathing to the side 16 feet, back floats with arm pulls, correct kicking and body position: prone and supine, and jumping into 3 ft pool from deck.
Level 3 - (6 yrs and older) GOALS; Swimming the length of the pool 32 feet, using front crawl and rhythmic breathing, transitioning into back stroke, free style, introduction of elementary backstroke kick and side stroke kick, knee dives and standing dives.
Level 4 - (6 yrs and older) GOALS; Bi-lateral breathing, open turns, starts for swim team, combining arms and kick of elementary back stroke and side stroke, beginning breast stroke kick, and butterfly body motion, knee dives and standing dives.
Level 5 - (6 yrs and older) GOALS; Breast stroke and working towards endurance and fluency in 5 strokes: front crawl, back stroke, elementary back stroke, side stroke, breast stroke, knee dives and standing dives.
Level 6 - (6 yrs and older) GOALS; Free style, flip turns, back stroke, elementary back stroke, side stroke are reviewed, breast stroke / pullout and butterfly are refined, life saving approach stroke and increased endurance are emphasized.
Swim Team Prep - (6 yrs and older) GOALS; Work on the 4 starts and turns that will be used at swim meets and practices, correcting technique and refocusing your power into a more water dynamic and streamlined efficiency. Working on more rotation on freestyle and reaching. This class can be registered for as a straight summer week or monthly session.
Swim Team Options
Swim Team Prep - (6 yrs and older) GOALS; Work on the 4 starts and turns that will be used at swim meets and practices, correcting technique and refocusing your power into a more water dynamic and streamlined efficiency. Working on more rotation on freestyle and reaching. This class can be registered for as a straight summer week or monthly session.
