About

The Swim of Things is a family owned and operated swim school that has been in existence since 1988. Our swim school is equipped with a 6-yd. x 10-yd. indoor, heated pool that stays a comfortable 89 degrees year-round.

We excel at teaching students ages 4 months to seniors in a small class setting, with a maximum of four students in most classes. Our class levels range from Water Baby 1 to Swim Team Preparation. Students are thoughtfully placed into classes based on their experience, skills, comfort level, and overall relationship with water.

Description and Responsibilities

The Swim of Things is looking for a positive, enthusiastic, and eager to learn individual to join our team. Responsibilities and expectations of the deck assistant would be as follows:

 

1. Assist students into upcoming class while transitioning previous class out of the pool.

2. Become familiar with class schedule and student names/levels.

3. Maintain a safe and organized environment at all times.

4. Maintain a controlled and organized atmosphere during class transitions.

5. Positively engage with students and families in an outgoing and friendly manner.

6. Be responsible for taking attendance, answering the phone, and writing down any messages.

7. Keep areas clean. Sidework duties between classes include but are not limited to bleaching toys, cleaning floors, cleaning interior windows and doors, disinfecting bathrooms and counters, wiping walls, dusting, etc.

Qualifications

Mandatory:

• Friendly and outgoing personality

• Quick learner

• Works well as part of a team and participates in group collaboration/planning.

• Must be a self-starter with exceptional problem-solving skills.

• Must be able to remain focused, organized, and aware in a high-energy environment.

 

Preferred:

• Experience caring for children

• Experience working with large groups of children

Schedule

15-20 hours/week

 

Compensation

$8.30/hr. with opportunity for pay increase with employee review every 6 months.

Description and Responsibilities 

The Swim of Things is looking for a positive, enthusiastic, and eager to learn individual to join our team of skilled and experienced swim instructors. Responsibilities and expectations of the swim instructor would be as follows: 

1. Assist current instructors during various classes for at least 50 hours before taking on an independent class. 

2. Become familiar with class schedule and student names/levels. 

3. Collaborate with other instructors regarding student placement and scheduling. 

4. Communicate with families regarding student progress and level. 

5. Maintain an organized, controlled, and safe class of a max. of 4 students at all times. 

6. Become familiar with teaching techniques and skills that are appropriate for each level and instruct classes accordingly. 

7. Become familiar with the tools and resources available to you as a teacher. 

Although the main responsibilities of the instructor would be to teach swim classes, there are various duties that accompany the position. Some of these duties may include, but are not limited to: 

1. Become familiar with general pool operations/routines. 

2. Maintain a safe and organized pool deck at all times. 

3. Check the general condition of the facility/pool daily to maintain functionality, organization, and a safe environment. 

4. Continuously communicate with the office staff regarding scheduling. 

5. Attend and participate in occasional staff meetings and other educational opportunities that occur outside of normal business hours. 

 

Qualifications 

Mandatory: 

• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification, or will complete within 30 days of hire. 

• Experience working with children of various ages, specifically 4 months to 3 years of age. 

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and has experience with, or is willing to learn Jackrabbit Class software. 

• Must be at least 18 years of age. 

• Works well as part of a team and participates in group collaboration/planning. 

• Must be a self-starter with exceptional problem-solving skills. 

• Must be able to remain focused, organized, and aware in a high-energy environment. 

 

Preferred: 

• Early childhood development/education classes. 

• Experience with children with physical/mental/developmental disabilities. 

• Willing to complete an Adapted Aquatics Instruction Course. 

• Experience teaching in a high-energy environment. 

• American Red Cross BSI (Basic Swim Instructor) or WSI (Water Safety Instructor) certification. 

 

Schedule 

15-20 hours/week

The instructor's schedule will vary during their training/assisting period, as class levels vary each day. The independent swim instructor schedule will be semi-flexible for each session, but must be able to work weekends.
